What is the Kent Test?

The Kent Test is the county-wide 11+ exam used by Kent grammar schools for Year 7 admissions. It assesses a child's academic reasoning, literacy and numeracy via GL Assessment papers.

Around 15,000+ children sit the Kent Test each year for roughly 5,600 grammar school places; about 25-30% reach the selective standard.

Pupils take:

  1. Paper 1 (English & Maths) - multiple-choice questions; 1 hour with separate English and Maths sections.
  2. Paper 2 (Reasoning) - verbal, non-verbal and spatial reasoning.
  3. Creative writing task - 40-minute task, used mainly in headteacher reviews and borderline cases.
